What are Self-Protection Measures (MAP)?

Self-Protection Measures are a set of mandatory procedures and practices that have two main objectives:

• Prevent the risk of fire
• Protect people and property in case of emergency

That said, they are divided into two main groups:

Preventive Measures

• Regular maintenance of safety equipment (extinguishers, alarms, emergency lighting, etc.)
• Periodic checks of protection systems
• Awareness and training actions for employees and building occupants

Intervention Measures

• Procedures to adopt in an emergency
• Evacuation plans
• Immediate communication with firefighters
• Use of first intervention means (such as extinguishers)

The complexity of these measures may vary according to the type of building, its use and risk category.

What are Safety Records?

Safety Records are the documentary proof that Self-protection Measures are being complied with. In practice, they function as an official archive that must always be updated, organized and available for consultation by authorities, namely ANEPC (National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority).

These records include:

• Records of internal safety equipment checks
• Maintenance reports
• Records of training conducted
• Records and reports of drills

The organization and management of Safety Records are fundamental. If they do not exist or are incomplete, the building or establishment is not in legal compliance.

Everything the law requires in one place

Safety Records must be kept for 10 years and be available for inspection at any time (Art. 198 of RT-SCIE). With e-MAPs®, everything stays organized:

Who is responsible?

• Keep Safety Records permanently updated and organized
• Ensure maintenance of safety systems and equipment
• Implement and update Self-protection Measures
• Coordinate training and drills
• Be the official contact with firefighters, civil protection and competent authorities

In summary, the Safety Officer is the person who is legally responsible for compliance with the measures and for the safety of the building.
